In part 1, and part 2 of this 5 part series of blog's I discussed the need for a person to create their own health holistically through firstly the physiological needs of good food/nutrition, water, breathing, and balancing their stressors, and then secondly through creating safety and security in their employment, finances, and body, through healthy methods outlined in part 1.
All of these are aspects of health and although prioritised into levels or hierachies, it is important to note that all are important if you truly want to be healthy.
The next level in the hierachy are the social needs, or the needs of love and belonging.
Quite simply, human beings need to feel belonging. We are social creatures by nature and we all need love in some capacity. It has been proven time and again how orphans who are abandoned and rarely experience love can become much sicker and prone to diseases than others. The incidences of mental illness and suicides are very high and the quality of life in later years is hugely compromised. (Many turn to becoming criminals, or prostitution.)
For adults who suffer from this same lack of love and belonging the results can be similar - incidences of suicide, depression, anxiety, and other mental ills are most certainly higher in people who spend a large part of their lives in isolation.
Maslow explains in his hierachy that to feel a sense of love and belonging we need family, friends and sexual intimacy. As a Holistic Lifestyle Coach obviously these are not modifiable factors of a person's lifestyle that I can help too much to change, except to suggest that to be increasingly outgoing and reaching out to clubs, social groups and existing family members is the best route to improving this area of your life.
Get in contact with old friends and loved ones, find your common interests, and build lasting relationships from there. If you truly want to, you will find that this is much easier than you think.
Once this area of your life is bursting full, you will feel much, much healthier!
