Gals, if you were asked what the key to happiness is, what would you say? Researchers are now suggesting that an everyday activity we ALL do is not making us any happier. Let's discuss ...
Oh, illusive happiness. We're all trying to find more of it, right? And now an age-old pastime we all like is getting the tsk-tsk. Day dreaming, say researchers, isn't good for our happiness any more than French fries are for our diets.
Why, you ask? According to Harvard researchers who tracked data from an iPhone app, TrackYourHappiness. Participants were randomly asked to report how happy they were and what they were doing.
The researchers determined that people spend 47 percent of their waking hours thinking about things other than what they are doing in the present moment. The conclusion? Mind-wandering, or daydreaming about anything other than the present, is a significant cause of unhappiness. What works? According to the study, staying in the moment goes along way for a happy mind.
I say hold it right there: This is not true in my life. I love to daydream, and I've always thought that focusing on happy things in these thoughts actually improves my happiness. Maybe I'm in the minority?
Do you like to daydream? Does it improve or detract from your happiness, do you think?
